I just finished watching the preview episode of Secrets from a Stylist, starring Emily Henderson, this year's Design Star winner. The show centers around the "transformation" process, but the layout of the show seemed sloppy and confusing. Is it worth bringing in furniture, removing furniture, bringing in furniture, removing furniture, then bringing in more furniture? Seemed far too bipolar for my taste, but I do have to say each time Emily brought in good style taste and choices for the most part.
As for the entertaining value of the show, it revolves almost entirely around Emily Henderson, who dresses country, yet talks/acts like an annoying so-cal valley girl (I grew up in So-Cal, so I can make the comparison). I found her to be far too talkitive for my tastes, and it would have been great to include others in the mix, but that's a personal opinion. There wasn't a lot of "fun" in the show, either from coworker interaction or other, so lets see if that gets added to the show in the future.
So beyond the confusing layout of the show, which we hope they will work out before the season starts, I think Emily Henderson brings some good style tips overall. Certainly she has her own style she brings to the designs, but most I wouldn't mind having in my own home, even if they are a little bland at times. It would also be nice to see her paired with a capable and personable handyman who might be able to bring some aspects from the construction side, it might help even out the show.
So in the end, is Secrets from a Stylist worth watching? I'd say its worth keeping an eye on, and see how the show progresses, but beyond that it will be up to personal taste. I personally find her to be a little annoying to my taste, but if the show focuses less on her, perhaps adds a capable "sidekick", and works out its layout, it may just find a place onto my DVR.
